CAMPIFYME!: THE CASS FOC FROM A DMC P.O.V

In the faculty of Communications, Arts and Social Sciences (CASS), our diploma (obviously I’m talking about the Diploma in Media and Communications, why else would you be here if it were about something else?) is the largest in terms of size, sprawling across five classes, when most of the other courses in CASS have only two. So, the CASS Freshmen Orientation Camp (FOC) would be a good way to get to know some of your peers before you start school. Also, having a familiar face around when poly starts (like literally, on the first day) would definitely help you ease into the curriculum and grind of poly life better!

Don’t friends always make anything/everything better?

Drawing from our past two and upcoming third experience of being in the CASS FOC, we can safely say that the people you meet from camp are a bunch that will stay with you throughout your three years! Out of the eight other people that were our camp group, there were three of us who were in the same class and till today, we were in the same groups for projects and we have been pretty close ever since then!

(Taking a step back, we realize that we might like overly enthusiastic camp goers, so to those objective minds out there, we sound slightly biased. We probably are!)

Hence, to bring the opinion level and objectivity to a balance, let us bring in bunch of other people into the picture! I’m gonna let them relay to you, their experiences of being in CASS FOC from a DMC kids perspective:

“FOC was FUN and I to think had actually contemplated whether I should go for it or not. It is the best camp I’ve been to! The seniors are friendly and I have also made a lot of friends from it. If I could do it all over again, I would without any hesitation.”

Also, if you are already selected for DMC and have plans to come for the CASS FOC, here are just three friendly tips you might wanna heed:

1. It’s a new chapter in your life, so why not let's just start afresh! Be who you want to be but at the same time, keep it real. 

[False guises don’t really last long cause in DMC, we all kind of have a knack for digging up dirt. ;)]

2. Don’t judge anyone by anything, especially in DMC. We are a real quirky bunch, composed of people from the whole of the social spectrum! Open your thoughts and more importantly, your heart.

(Not literally though, that would be slightly IMH-worthy.)

3.  It's definitely going to be scary, thinking about how you are coming to the camp alone and how you barely know anyone there, but hey; take faith in the fact that the person next to you is probably feeling something similar. Use that to make a connection! (We are all underdogs, and underdogs rule!)

Also, you might be wondering who is actually crafting out this whole post that you have just read.

(Well not really, I might have actually just popped that idea into your head…)
